Memories by Ellen Rice
A Beautiful Painting. A Worthy Cause. A Fun
Evening.
You Are Invited!

Ellen Rice giclée debut,
live music mark evening of
fun at Ellen Rice Gallery

“Memories” sales to
benefit Justin’s Beach House

Fine art, live music and summer refreshments are the evening’s fare this Thursday, June 28, at The Ellen Rice Gallery in Ocean View. Everyone is invited.

The evening will begin with the debut of well known Delaware artist Ellen Rice’s newest oil painting, Memories, and limited edition giclée reproductions at 6 p.m. While the artist personalizes prints and welcomes guests, singer, songwriter and guitarist John Pollard, founder of the popular Cole Younger Band, will entertain with solo songs from his “My Bethany” album and special requests.

Rice is donating 10% of all Memories print sales June 28 through July 31 to the building fund for Justin’s Beach House, a home that is going to be built in Bethany Beach to give families challenged with cancer a place to find happiness at the shore.

Memories is a 16” x 16” oil painting of two young girls walking down the beach at the end of a beautiful summer day. The painting is an offshoot of an oil portrait Rice is painting for a couple who has been summering in the Bethany Beach area for many years. It was inspired by hundreds of reference photos taken for the portrait.

“What made it not a candidate for the portrait — you can’t see the girls’ faces -- made it perfect for my first summer debut and my fundraising efforts for Justin’s Beach House this year,” says Rice. “Happily, the children’s mother gave permission for me to paint it.

“There’s something about this image that I felt impelled to paint. There’s a sense of timelessness. It’s a moment. Pristine. Beautiful. Happy. It won’t pass this way again, but will always be held dear in memory. Mine. The girls. The parents. Anyone who appreciates the beauty of the beach in late afternoon and two wet little swimmers taking a walk together.

“My hope is many, many children and their parents will be able to share happy moments like these at Justin’s Beach House – moments they would not otherwise have been able to experience if it weren’t for the efforts of those supporting the house’s creation.”

“This is a charity where you know where your money is going,” says Rice. “There aren’t any high paid CEOs -- just people who care making things happen. I fully support it.”

For those who would like to own a new work of art by Ellen Rice while also contributing to this cause, debuting Thursday will be 9 of 10 signed, numbered and oil-embellished artist proofs on canvas with the look and feel of an original for $595 (Artist proof no. 1 went for $3,000 at the Contractors for a Cause auction), 30 signed, numbered (not embellished) giclées on canvas selling for $395, and 100 signed, numbered and embossed giclées on archival watercolor paper, selling for $220.

Those coming to the event earliest will receive the lowest giclée numbers. All Memories print numbers will be assigned in the order in which they’re sold, kicking off with in-gallery sales the night of the 28th. All phone and internet orders will be assigned numbers after the event concludes at 9 p.m. in the order they’re received.
