This loving image painted in oils by Ellen Rice is inspired by a moment captured on film by a young mother many years ago. Her daughter and son always had a strong bond, and one late afternoon along the Delaware coast she captured the essence of that bond on film when they spontaneously grasped each others' hands and started walking down the beach together. Now grown, she says they are still "the best of friends."
A couple years ago, the mother brought her image to Ellen hoping she'd paint it for her ongoing "Children by the Sea" series. This is Ellen's sixth Children by the Sea painting. When she feels she has enough together, she will use the images to illustrate greeting cards depicting the healing joy of looking at life through a more childlike perspective.
While working on The Best of Friends in her gallery's studio space, others asked if she would put "The Best of Friends" in print. See below for Ellen's print offerings.
Note: Photo submissions from parents, grandparents, and guardians for possible inclusion in the series of the children in their lives are still being accepted. Please email Ellen or stop by the gallery Saturday afternoons if you'd like more information.
