Governor William Henry Harrison Ross Mansion
The Ross Mansion was built in Seaford, Sussex County, Delaware in 1859 just before the Civil War broke out. Gov. Ross was a Confederate sympathizer and spent most of the war doing a grand tour of Europe while two of his sons fought on opposite sides of the war. The mansion began as a plain farmhouse. The Governor added the entire front of the mansion upon his return, influenced by Italian Renaissance architecture
