Quiet Evening

by Ellen Rice
Image description
In Quiet Evening, the setting sun has disappeared behind a low bank of clouds at Indian River Inlet, Delaware, leaving behind a constantly changing array of colors.

Moment by moment, reds turn to softly glowing golds and peaches, all reflected in the inlet water as fishermen wait for this quiet early fall evening's last catch.

Inspired by end-of-season colors and painted in the old master's style of applying multiple thin oil glazes, each of which must dry before going on to the next, this painting glows and changes color as the light much like the sunset that inspired it.
